Concept
The memory that I have decided to try and recreate in my soundscape is the memory of a hockey game. Growing up I spent a lot of my time playing and practicing hockey, so it was a big part of my life. I have vivid memories of the sounds that are heard in an ice rink and can imagine the sounds of the crowd cheering when a goal is scored, and the sound of the boards as someone gets checked. By layering the sounds I hope to create a vision in your head of someone skating on ice. As the skating gets louder it would slowly transform into the soundscape of a hockey game with the crowd cheering, alarms sounding and the sound of sticks clapping. While it might be difficult to perfectly recreate the scene in my head, I feel like I will be able to create a recognizable scene, even for those who are relatively unfamiliar with hockey.
Process
The sounds I used for the project were a little difficult to record because they were action shots. So to record my sounds I carried the microphone next to my friend while he performed the actions that I needed sounds for. For the editing process I started my just layering all the sounds to try and get the atmosphere I wanted. After I layered them and got the main atmosphere I wanted I started to build out the overall experience. Starting with just a few sounds and slowly adding more to build into the full atmosphere and then once it reaches the climax, I decided to take away all the sounds except for one to give the listener the thought as if it was a dream.
Conclusion
Overall I am quite happy with how this soundscape turned out because I feel as if it encapsulated the full experience I was hoping to communicate to the audience.
