Final Project Proposal

Final Project: Research

I want to display a heart rate screen on processing. This screen will be connected to a wrist band that can detect you pulse, which will send signals to the screen. This will create tall red peaks for fast heart beats and more blue horizontal lines for slow beats.

This air stamp project allows users to stamp letters on the area provided above which would result in them displaying in the clear area of the box. This project also allows users to make the text bigger and smaller by bringing their hands in and out from the two sides the box. In my opinion this makes a successful project because it encourages a lot of human interaction. This influences me too make each part of my project interactive.

This pulse sensor project gives us a visual of an audience‘s pulses. I think this project was successful in the way that it was able to display everyone’s pulse on processing. However I think this project could use more interaction that controls either the color of the pulse or the size of the pulse that is displayed on the processing screen.

Throughout this class, my idea of interaction has been relatively similar. I think an interactive project shout require an human input that produces an output. This idea can also be supported by my group project and midterm project. My group project required a persons actions to give directions to the robot. My midterm project required 2 players to push yes or no buttons to answer questions that would trigger a response from the LED lights or LCD screen. For this project, the user could start off walking and then go into a jog to see how the heart rate monitor reacts to the change of pace/actions.

As for supporting resources, the quote, “All of the conditions of the dynamic passive category apply with the added factor that the human ‘viewer’ has an active role in influencing the changes in the art object,” from “Art, Interaction and Engagement” by Ernest Edmonds
