The author first mentioned the benefit and the ‘ill effect’ of the Web. In our daily life, Web is really a double-edged sword. For example, it surely could bring convenience to our life, we can get access to whatever information in a fast speed with high accuracy and different perspectives. However, the algorithm itself in dragging us inside the filter bubble, since I like to watch short videos, especially those short introduction about net literature, the Web will filter all the information that has nothing to do with those literature and keep feeding me with 10-minutes introductions of the literature. I am inside the whirlpool right now and it’s hard for me to jump out. As the Web is keep advancing, we are taking more advantages but we still need to be careful about it.
Concepts & Relations
First is Universally and Isolation. Universality means that Web should be accessible to everyone regardless of different regions, cultures, etc. Decentralization is also an important concept when we talk about Universality, it could widespread innovation. Isolation leads to the connections among data exist only within a site, which tends to limit innovation. After all, Universality promotes an open and interconnected Web where information can be sent or shared freely, while isolation arises from closed systems that hinder the universal sharing of data.
Second is Open standards and Closed worlds. For Open standards, they allow for multiple options and foster creations and diversity. It’s like different programming languages could be attached to python, so it also contains flexibility. When we turn to closed worlds, walls would be established, you are no longer on the Web, the evolution inside is limited while the development outside would also delay. So, Open standards enable sharing, while closed systems restrict it.
Third is Web and Internet. The two are interrelated, the Internet is the underlying network infrastructure that enables data transmission, and the Web is one of the applications that operate on top of this infrastructure.
