Photo Diptych Idea

March 14, 2022 by Angel Lentini Leave a Comment

What is the overall concept for the Diptych? What are you trying to convey?

For my concept, I want to use an idea I had from a previous class that I wasn’t able to do because of some limitations. I want to show the duality of man and how on the one side they may seem completely normal or innocent but on the other side, it’s the complete opposite. I want to convey that there may be more to a person than what we see. Often when it comes to some criminals, people say “oh they couldn’t have done that, just look at them.” However, anybody is capable of anything and despite how much we may think we know a person, we may never really be able to. That is what I want to convey, however, I already foresee an issue of being a bit too on the nose about it and obvious, but I want to try to make it less obvious and something people may have to think about.

What kind of conversation do the two images create and assist each other to convey the concept together?

With my concept, I think this is quite an easy thing to achieve because my images are meant to represent the multiple faces a person can have. Thus, the images have to be shown together to get the idea and see the duality of people. I want to make them stand-alone images, but also when put together, a bigger image is formed to really show how one is needed to complete the other and both must exist together.

What image(s) do you plan to take photos of?

For the one side that is not manipulated, I just plan on having someone’s face, probably a friend of mine Though, I may consider adding multiple faces.

On the other side, I am still not quite sure of how I will convey it. I don’t know if I will use the images based on what is in them or if I will choose the images based on their colors so that I can rearrange them to create another image. In the second case, what I take a picture of does not matter as much as the colors that are present in the image.

How do you plan to manipulate the image(s) using Photoshop?

For the one side, there is no manipulation, or very little, so I don’t have a plan for that.

On the other side, I am still not quite sure. As stated in the previous answer, I think it depends on which route I take in collaging the pictures that will help me figure out what kind of manipulation is needed.
