Future Punk – Week 4 Assignment

The game I want to share is named Love And Deepspace, which I played on my phone to just for fun when I found the characters in the game is really handsome from the online advertisement. The game combines elements of both visual novel storytelling with simulation and management gameplay. Players take on the role of a female protagonist who interacts with three handsome 3d male characters, while each of the three characters is set to have their own personalities, background and storylines to have connection with the female protagonist. The game is set under the condition that matter from otherworld destroyed the world and a new city has been built to save human. Under this setting, players need to go through the entire storyline by making decisions that influence their relationships with the male characters and fight against the otherworld matter like other fighting game to shape closer relationship with characters and level up their experience. After players win diamonds from the game, they can use the diamonds for lucky draw game cards. The game cards are interactive and also 3d to tell a romantic story between the player and the character. During the very first stage of the game, player can choose their favorite character to increase the possibility of the appearance of their favorite one in the card lucky draw. Below are two marketing posters of the game.

From my perspective, the game attracts players by designing the excellent storyline and build the perfect character with special personality and background. Through interactions and story progression, players learn more about each character’s motivations, insecurities, and hidden depths to deepen their emotional connection. For different character, players are playing in totally different environment and setting but the storyline is connected and unbroken. The feeling of freshness and love is provided inside and outside the game. In the game, a message interface is included for player to send and receive messages with characters. Besides that, players can also take photos with characters with selection of their own 3d figure. In real life, players even receive phone calls from the characters during different festivals and valentines day to get wishes.

Like other normal games, it generate profit in traditional way. But except that, the game uses the mechanism of lucky draw to make a large part of its benefit since cards are released and limited to different seasons. If users want to get the card, they need to enter the lucky draw again and again for the special card and pay for extra enters. One of my friends once spent about 3000RMB(1500Dirhams) a night to just get the card she wanted.

Based on the game’s designing and marketing strategy, the game differentiate itself from other games with high-quality artwork, character designs, and animated sequences and offer users immersive experiences. The interface is user-friendly and intuitive, with polished graphics and well-designed menus that enhance the overall presentation. However, its designing also have negative influences on its players. While the visual novel of it presents idealized romantic scenarios and characters, it can create players’ unrealistic expectations about romantic relationships in their real life. With more immersive setting in this game than other games, players may even start comparing their own relationships to those depicted in the game, leading to dissatisfaction or disappointment. Because the game require users to sign in and finish missions everyday to get rewarded, it could also potentially consume a significant amount of players’ time, especially if they become engrossed in the storyline or multiple playthroughs. This kind of behavior may lead players to neglect of their real-life responsibilities, social isolation, or sleep deprivation.
