Watching response: Five Obstructions
- What are the precise rules of each of the obstructions?
- No single edit may be longer than 12 frames
- The most miserable place on the earth
- Complete freedom or back to Bombay
- Cartoon
- Ultimate obstruction–credited as a director
- How does Jorgen cope with the obstructions?
- He creates the theme of Cuba, builds a room with a screen, and investigates and takes photos of a man and a woman.
- He goes to the red light district in Bombay and films people there, but it is regarded as therapy, which means he needs to find someplace worse than that.
- He creates a film with freestyle, in which he focuses on the perfect human. It is about what the perfect humans think and what they do.
- Although he hates cartoons, Jorfen still turns the previous films about perfect humans into cartoons, which is interesting and fresh.
- He creates a film about perfect humans based on his inner thoughts. He appreciates that he goes through the five obstructions and learns more about filming.
- What is the effect on the movies he produces?
Firstly, Jorgen tries to create more types of art that he didn’t like before, such as cartoons. In this way, he finds all kinds of art interesting. In addition, during the process, he has a deeper understanding of filming. He realizes that the perfect human fails and he should only focus on what he likes instead of blindly following the others.
- Other thoughts crossing your mind while watching.
I am a little confused about why the fragment and description of “the perfect human” exist all the time in the whole film. Is it the artwork by Jorgen or just a reflection and imagination in his mind?
