February 8, 2016 by vmckeon

“Millennials can always tell if you’re being disingenuous,” said Evan Spiegel, CEO and Co-Founder of Snapchat.

Millennial (mil·len·ni·al) noun: A person with birth years ranging from the early 1980s to the early 2000s.

These are big words from one of the most successful innovators of the 21st century. It is time to take stock, he said. This is where the media industry is headed—into the hands of twenty and thirty-somethings around the world. [Read more…] about Millennials and Mobile: Inside the Magazine Media 360 Conference

November 9, 2015 by vmckeon

How many times a day do you check your cell phone?

It is probably around 220 times, says Lauren O’Keefe Hendricks, Vice President of Publisher Partnerships at Kargo.

Surprised? You shouldn’t be! Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Snapchat—think about the list of apps that cover your phone’s home screen.

@twitter, the “Moments” are now

November 9, 2015 by vmckeon

“#LOVE WHERE YOU WORK” reads the bright fluorescent sign on the 6th floor lobby of the Twitter headquarters in Manhattan.  This perfectly describes the company and its culture; it is evident that those who work at Twitter are deeply passionate about what they do and the important role that this social media company plays in communication on a global scale. Twitter grew out of SMS communication, which is why tweets do not exceed the 140-character limit. It has since evolved into one of the most widely used social media platforms for up-to-date news and information. As avid lovers of Twitter, a group of NYU MS in Publishing: Digital and Print Media students were excited to visit the company’s offices last week to learn more about its mission, recent innovations and products, and what the future holds for tweeters worldwide. “There’s still a lot of money in print,” said Jay Lauf, Senior Vice President & Group Publisher of Atlantic Media and Publisher & President of Quartz. Lauf was one of six Atlantic Media executives who gathered to help NYU School of Professional Studies M.S. in Publishing: Digital and Print Media students learn more about how a magazine founded in 1857 by Ralph Waldo Emerson, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, and James Russell Lowell, among other American icons, became the flagship brand of one of the most innovative media companies in the nation. Like most major media companies, Atlantic Media is exploring a vast range of digital revenue opportunities…while still cultivating the rich returns from print advertising.
