About the organization
Background: UNHCR is mandated by the United Nations to lead and coordinate international action for the worldwide protection of refugees and the resolution of refugee problems. UNHCR’s primary purpose is to safeguard the rights and well-being of refugees. In its efforts to achieve this objective, UNHCR strives to ensure that everyone can exercise the right to seek asylum and find safe refuge in another country and to return home voluntarily. By assisting refugees to return to their own country when the conditions allow or to settle permanently in another country, UNHCR also seeks lasting solutions to their plight. UNHCR has been working in Czechia for over 30 years.

What Does UNHCR Offer?

What Will the Volunteer Work on?
- Support UNHCR in strengthening communication with refugee communities. This means helping the organization to ensure that refugees of different ages, genders and diversities receive information relevant to them in accessible languages and formats.
- Assist with reviewing, editing, formatting, and designing documents and web products.
- Support UNHCR in the development of information, education, and communication materials on UNHCR’s activities.
- Translation of UNHCR’s products in different languages.
- Conduct specific research assignments on topical refugee issues.
What is UNHCR looking for?
The ideal candidate will have a positive attitude and be eager to learn and to contribute to UNHCR’s objectives. They will have effective written and verbal communication skills. They should be resourceful, proactive in finding solutions. The selected candidate will be required to be able to work effectively remotely with stable internet connection.
What Experience and Skills Does UNHCR Value?
- Experience in digital communications and media, including in the editing, formatting and design of products.
- Experience in working with different people from different backgrounds.
- Strong organizational and analytical skills.
What Languages are Needed for the Internship?
Required: English (for specific assignments, the language required will be indicted in the description of the assigment (DOA) on the UN Volunteers Platform)
