Area of Internship: Volunteering and working with Ukrainian refugees in Prague (both adults and children); organizing Events
Time Commitment: flexible
Number of Interns: flexible
The Organization for Aid to Refugees has been helping refugees in the Czech Republic since the year 1991. Since the war in Ukraine, they have been working with many Ukrainian refugees in Prague, providing housing, support, and activities.
This semester, our students could get involved in one of the following projects:
1. Plan an event for kids and parents: Plan an event for parents and kids: Organize 3-4 events during the semester (probably once a month on weekends) for children aged 6-11 and parents. The events would be organized by a team of NYU Prague students, and could include sports activities, Halloween event, Christmas events, art workshops… This requires students who love organizing events and want to meet with the refugees several times throughout the semester. Ideally, the intern working on this project would have good leadership and organizational skills, as well as someone who enjoys working with children.
2. Join OPU activities: join other OPU volunteers and participate in some of the events that they organize (e.g. arts and crafts, soccer games, taking kids to playgrounds).
3. Something else … Another event, such as a music concert… the OPU volunteer coordinator is open to ideas
All volunteers would need to participate in a short training program provided by OPU so they understand the situation of the refugees and also understand the rules and regulations of the organization. We are looking for a sociable people preferably with previous experience in working with people. The main aim of this internship is to meet people, show them that we care and for a while, let them forget about their worries.
Comment from former intern:
“Best memory: Organizing a Holi event for the kids and watching them decorate bags, color and get their face painted!” – Ela Kulkarni, Spring 2023
