Area of Internship: Children’s Theatre

Time Commitment: 1-2 hours/week

Number of Interns: 1-2

Story Theatre, which works under the nonprofit organization Class Acts, is a children’s theatre company that was founded 10 years ago by Leah Gaffen and NYU Tisch graduate Jay DeYonker. Working with children aged 8-16, we create theatre performances in English for the local community.   Every year we have one big show and we also do storytelling at a local library.  We also organize the Let’s Write creative writing project, and recently released a podcast of stories written by children about their ancestors.  In 2019, Story Theatre won the top prize in the national Czech children’s theatre festival for their original musical  “Journeys.”

NYU Prague students could be part of a club for young children that takes place on Tuesday afternoon..

  • Storytelling Club (Tuesday afternoons, 4-6 p.m.): Drama classes for children 6-10 and 11-13 that meets in a local library. Younger children (4-5 p.m.) will create very short shows that they perform at our monthly English-language storytelling program. Older children will develop short plays based on stories about their ancestors. Takes at the Korunni Library, close to the Machova dorm.  This program is led by Leah Gaffen and Veronika Kirschenerova (Londynska Elementary school).
