Best Drinks and Bites of Prague

If there’s one thing about me, it’s that I’m a foodie at heart. My infatuation with restaurants and trying new cuisines extends back to my youth, with my father constantly immersing me in new foods in my childhood home and kitchens around the country. I had no choice but to be quite the antithesis of a picky eater. My first job was as a hostess at a restaurant in my hometown at just 15 years old, and I quickly became completely immersed in the culture of the industry. Since then, I have consistently worked in the food service industry and relentlessly made it a priority of mine to try every restaurant and bar possible (148 so far this year!) which quickly became my favorite hobby.

So consequently, when coming to Prague, I knew the food scene here would be of utmost interest to me. I’ve relentlessly scoured the city to try all of the spots I’ve been recommended by tourists and locals alike, as well as places I’ve stumbled upon through my own adventures that have piqued my interest. As a self-proclaimed restaurant and food connoisseur, here is my personal recommendation list of the best restaurants and bars to check out while spending time in the Czech Republic.

Zlata Pumpa

Craving some delicious Mexican food at an affordable price point? Look no further than Zlata Pumpa. This little hidden gem in Vinohrady is serving up some of the most tasty tacos and nachos I’ve ever had (and some delicious frozen margaritas too)! The restaurant is small, so make sure to make a reservation or come on a weeknight, but it’s a must-try to satisfy your Mexican food cravings while abroad.

Bistro Monk

Hands down the best brunch in all of Prague! Bistro Monk, with two locations within the city, has become without a doubt one of my favorite places to dine throughout the semester. Also my go-to spot to bring visitors. Their incredibly delicious and unique twists on breakfast and lunch staples ensures everyone can find something they love (the breakfast bowl is my absolute favorite)!

Machova

Only a two-minute walk from the Machova dorm is where you’ll find some of the best taste of Czech cuisine in the city. And with its incredibly affordable price point, Machova restaurant has become an absolute staple while in Prague. An extremely welcoming environment and friendly staff to ensure your dining experience here is well worth it. Highly, highly recommended!

Coffee Corner

A Machova staple! Open from the crack of dawn till 9pm, Coffee Corner is a safe bet for your breakfast, lunch or dinner cravings. It has consistently been my favorite spot to get work done throughout the semester or grab a quick (yet delicious) bite to eat just a few steps away from the Machova dorm.

BARS:

Hemingway’s

Inspired by the infamous author, Hemingway’s is an enchanting lounge bar with an incredible ambience and signature cocktails you can’t find anywhere else. The staff is extremely friendly and knowledgeable at their craft, always explaining the intricacies behind the unique drinks and engaging in conversation. This place is my vote for the best cocktail bar in all of Prague!

L’Fleur

Wonderful bar just outside of Old Town Square in the city center. So much thought and effort has been put into their drink menu, combining savory and sweet flavors in each cocktail for some of the most unique sips I’ve ever tasted. Absolutely exquisite attention to detail! P.S. Their grape cocktail is my favorite drink I’ve ever had!!!

Bokovka

An incredibly cozy and intimate wine bar with a great staff and great vibe. Bokovka feels like a speakeasy hidden amidst a courtyard, offering both indoor and outdoor seating. Its’ low-lit and small yet homey interior makes for a perfect place for a quick glass with friends or a date night spot.
