When studying abroad, it can be hard being away from home–especially if you have pets. Here in Prague, I see people walking their dogs everyday. Many of them are so well-behaved that they often trot around off-leash and will happily stop and say hello to you. Though I love dogs and have one back at home, I also have two cats and am secretly a bit more of a cat person than I let on. If you’re like me and find yourself missing your pets or just want to sip some coffee and spend time with cats, read on for an honest overview of all the cat cafes in Prague.
In the middle of Old Town and less than a 5 minute walk from campus, Kavárna Kočičí Praha is a great option if you want to go somewhere close-by or even kill some time in between classes. The place has a lot of options for seating, and also has unique drink options including my personal favorite, the Oreo Latte. There are also plenty of pastry/cake and food options, too. The cats here were pretty active, and each table had a little pamphlet showing the names and pictures of each cat, making it easy to identify whichever one was near you. It can get a little crowded though, so it’s best to make a reservation ahead of time.
Of course we loved all the cats, but here’s a special feature of the crowd favorite, Barney:

The farthest cat cafe and also my personal least favorite of all the ones I visited, Cat Café Na Slupi by Vyšehrad is about 15-20 minutes away from Malé Náměsti. This place is cash only, and if you don’t get any food or drink, you have to pay a 100 Kč entrance fee. Both the upstairs and downstairs were decorated lavishly with pictures of cats personified as humans which was both funny yet a little unsettling. Luckily, they had tables available for walk-ins, but it seems they prefer you to have a reservation ahead of time.
The cats were all beautiful and clearly well-kept, but they were all sleeping in their respective cat tree ledges and didn’t have much interest in getting up or playing. They have a great dessert selection, and my friends and I enjoyed the strawberry and raspberry lemonades. Though it wasn’t open when we went, there is also an outdoor garden section, but it didn’t seem like the cats would be able to roam outside even if it was. It was a great space, but it was very busy and the distance and cash only aspects were what made me rank this as my least favorite cat cafe.
