In a sea of goulash and lackluster homemade pasta, you might find yourself craving some of the diverse cuisines and foods you’re used to back in New York City. If you’re anything like me, you’ll probably start fiending for homemade Asian food within your first week in Prague. Here are some of the best Asian grocery stores close to Old Town so you can start diversifying your cooking.
1. K-Food
First is K-Food, a small but comprehensive market that has most Korean pantry staples. Only a 12 minute walk from campus, K-Food has a decent selection of noodles, rice, sauces, and snacks. If you’re looking for any vegetables or other fresh produce, though, this may not be the place for you, as K-Food mainly sells dry goods and sauces.
2. SuSu Asian Shop
Next is SuSu Asian Shop, which is an 11 minute walk from campus, and also just a minute away from the Václavské náměstí stop (the 14 tram). SuSu has a plethora of Korean, Chinese, Vietnamese, Thai, and Indian cuisines, and is probably the most all-encompassing store with different Asian ingredients that you’ll find within Prague. It also has the biggest selection of produce, with lots of fresh bok choy, chilies, enoki mushrooms, Chinese broccoli, and more.
3. Korea Mart
Last is Korea Mart which is a 17 minute tram ride from campus, but completely worth the trek. Korea Mart is maybe triple the size of K-Food and has a more expansive selection of mostly Korea staples, as well as other Asian pantry staples. With big tubs of kimchi and a small, yet adequate frozen meat section, this is probably the closest equivalent to an H-Mart that you will find in Prague. Not only is the owner himself Korean, but he also has various traditional Korean recipes posted on the walls around the store for you to follow.
