Prague Bucket List

So little time so many things to see! Don’t worry, we put together a comprehensive list of places not to miss before you go, so that you feel like you’ve truly gotten to know Prague before you leave! You can also follow this guide if you have family and friends in town and you wonder where to take them! They are all our favorite spots!Gardens

Vrtbovská Garden

A gorgeous baroque garden placed on a slope in the Lesser Town district. There is a small fee to enter but it is totally worth it! If you walk all the way up, you will have one of best views of the historic city!

Gardens beneath the Prague Castle

A hidden group of 4 gardens that haven’t yet been widely discovered by tourists, way worth the small fee to get in! You will most likely have this wonderful area all to yourselves!

Wallenstein Garden (a.k.a. the peacock garden)

A hidden haven right next to a busy street and the Malostranska metro station with a large fountain, red fish, white peacocks and so much more! (the garden is currently under reconstruction).

Vojan Gardens

Another lovely gardens where you can rest, enjoy a small lake, historic buildings surrounding the park but mainly a large number of local peacocks!

Jelení Příkop (Stag Moat)

Right under the Prague Castle complex, you will find a beautiful little valley or a moat where you could find deer in the 18th century – hence the name. The deer are not there anymore but this still remains to be one of the most magical green spaces in the city centre. Again, most visitors of Prague do not make it here, so you can enjoy the beauty of the place without the crowds.

Letná Park

You’ve probably seen the red metronome from the city centre. This is exactly where the Letná park is situated. A big green space with beautiful views of the city, perfect for picnics in spring, summer and fall with a great beer garden and a newly built pond.

Stromovka

One of the biggest parks in the city center, a gorgeous place to walk or bike around with several workout spots, a parcour playground and newly renovated area with outdoor games and public bbq grills! You can also find the Prague planetarium in this park and usually several food and drink outlets.

Petřín Hill

Petřín hill, a.k.a. the hill with the small replica of the Eiffel Tower is also a beautiful park with many paths, loads of greenery and even some natural sandstone rocks to explore. You can go up to the top of the tower for great views or enjoy the mirror labyrinth right next to it. The best part? You can take the fun funicular up and down using your public transport ticket! The best time? Spring when the trees are in full blossom!

Riegrovy Sady

This sloped park in Vinohrady offers some beautiful views of the city centre. Many people come here to hang out and have a picnic on the lawn and watch the sunset. There is also a great beer garden at the top and an ice skating rink in the winter.

Grébovka

An off-the-beaten-path spot close to the Máchova dorm. Explore the local vineyard and the artificial grotto!

Rooftops

Lucerna

A popular venue on top of the famous Lucerna palace. Use the pater noster lift (the endless loop lift) to get to the top. There are regular events such as summer cinema, themed nights etc. in the summer.

Radost

The Radost building may not be much of a looker but it is a protected functionalist style architectural gem and the views from its rooftop are well worth the trip to the Žižkov district. You can come for a quick drink and chillout or enjoy some live music over the weekend or a movie screening.

Historical and Magical Sites beyond the Castle and the Bridge

Náplavka

This is a lovely area of Prague located right by the river Vltava. There are many cafes and places to relax, chill and watch the boats go by. There are also regular farmer’s markets on Saturdays and many events throughout the year.

Nový Svět

A little nook in the Castle district where you will feel like you’ve been transported into a fairy tale. Get ready for picturesque historical little houses, cobblestone roads and quaint cafes!

Vyšehrad

Legend has it that this historical fort was the location of the first settlement which later became Prague. Inside the fort, you will find the Basilica of St. Peter and St. Paul and the Vyšehrad Cemetery, containing the remains of many famous Czechs, such as Antonín Dvořák, Bedřich Smetana, Karel Čapek, and Alphonse Mucha. You can take a walk on top of the fortification walls and take in the gorgeous views of the river and the city.

Žižkov TV Tower

If you are all about finding the best views in Prague, this is one of the top contenders. This interesting structure is situated in the Žižkov district and overlooks the whole city. There is a small fee to enter and cards are not accepted.

Strahov Library

A true hidden gem, the Strahov Monastery Library will wow you with both its beautiful Baroque and the Classicist hall housing over 200 000 books! Visit it on the way to or from Petřín or the Castle – you will not regret it!

Břevnov Monastery

Take a short tram ride away from the city center and escape the crowds. Your reward will be the views of a gorgeous baroque monastery and a huge lush garden surrounding it. The monastery has a long standing tradition of brewing beer in the adjacent brewery.

Troja Chateau

The Troja Chateau is situated just a few minutes away from the Prague Zoo and the Botanical gardens including the St. Claire’s Vineyard. It is a beautiful baroque villa with breathtaking interiors decorated with frescos.

Zoo

This is a no-brainer for any animal lovers but worth visiting for anyone! Prague Zoo is over 80 years old and there are new additions being built on a regular basis. It is situated on and under the rocky slope right next to the river, which brings us to one of local attractions – the historical chairlift you can take up or down the hill!

Museums and Galleries

National Gallery

The National Gallery building in Holešovice boasts a permanent collection of Czech and international art as well as regular rotating exhibitions. We also recommend visiting Kolektor, the local café.

National Museum

The recently renovated National Museum is as interesting as a building as the collections it houses. Overlooking the Wenceslas square, this is truly a landmark not to be missed.

DOX

You will find this great modern art gallery in the very same street as our Osadní dorm. Look for the airship on the roof. The gallery has a great array of exhibitions as well as regular events and performances.

Kunsthalle

One of the fresh new galleries Prague has to offer, Kunsthalle is situated just across the river from NYU Prague’s campus. We definitely encourage you to visit this beautiful building. On Sundays, you can also enjoy a great brunch in their bistro.

Kampa Museum

This unique building is the home to a great modern art collection including the largest collection of works of František Kupka, perhaps the most famous Czech abstract painter.
