Packages

If you receive a package, you will be notified by email and you can pick it up at the Blue Building Hub (1st floor) during opening hours)

Collection points/boxes

Many online stores offer the option of getting your order sent to a collection points (e.g. Zásilkovna, Balíkovna,…) or designated electronic collection boxes (e.g. Alzabox). This is a convenient, fast and often cheaper option to get your online orders delivered.

Customs fees

If you receive a package from overseas, you may be charged tax or customs fees.  If this happens  you will either need to refuse to accept the package (and it will be returned to sender) OR go to the customs post office in person and pay the customs fees. This can be expensive and time-consuming.

Fees vary depending on the kind of package you are receiving and can also be affected by where it is sent from.

General guidelines:

Commercial packages (sent from an e-shop to a customer). The values listed below always include the postage fees:

• Packages of value of up to approximately $26 (22 EUR) are not subject to local VAT.
• Packages BETWEEN $26 (22 EUR) AND $175 (150 EUR) are subject to local VAT (21% of the value of the package).
• Packages valued at more than $175 (150 EUR) are charged local VAT AND customs fees (the amount varies depending on the country of origin and the type of the product).
• Always send packages to the NYU Center.

Personal packages (i.e. sent by a family member as a “gift”):
• Packages UNDER approx. $52 (45 EUR) are not charged tax or customs.  Over this amount and they will be charged at the same rates as commercial packages.

IMPORTANT: Each country has slightly different customs fees policies, so check your country’s legislation for more information or see the website of the Czech Post Office.

If your package gets held up at the customs office, you will receive a notification letter from the customs post office. You will need all the documents attached to the notification letter, your passport and NYU ID to pick up the package.

If you have questions, contact Markéta Helebrantová, mh129@nyu.edu.
