Radio Free Europe tour and Q+A with journalist
When: Thursday, September 25th, 1:30-4:30pm. Free.
Established at the beginning of the Cold War to transmit news and information to audiences behind the Iron Curtain, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL) played a significant role in the collapse of communism and the rise of democracies in post-communist Europe. Today, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty serves as a “surrogate” free press in 23 countries where the free flow of information is either banned by government authorities or not fully developed. This tour of the RFE/RL headquarters in Prague will give you a behind-the-scenes look at the inner workings of this historically controversial and incredibly important news organization. You will have the opportunity to ask questions, speak with reporters, and learn about the work that RFE/RL has done in the past, and continues to do today.

Kraków and Auschwitz Weekend Trip
When: November 7-9 (Departure at midnight the night of Thurs-Fri)
Cost: 7,900 CZK
-
- This weekend trip to the Polish city of Kraków includes a visit to former Nazi extermination camp Auschwitz-Birkenau. The bus departs Prague at midnight and arrives at Auschwitz in the early morning. Following the visit and explanation of the history of the concentration camp, the group will continue to Kraków on Friday evening. A former royal capital, crammed with history and splendor, Kraków is one of the most beautiful – and interesting – cities in Eastern Europe. Kraków’s beauty is self-evident – both the medieval old town and Wieliczka salt mines were added to the original UNESCO World Heritage List in 1978. There’s a thousand years of living history, much of it in remarkably good shape.
- The cost of the trip per person is 7200 CZK and includes a guided tour of Auschwitz, entry to Wieliczka salt mines, guided tour of the city, 3x breakfast, 2 nights in a hotel, private bus transportation and guiding for the whole trip by knowledgeable guide and student-favorite, Eva Illnerova.
