New York photographer Ronit must return to the Orthodox Jewish community in North London, where she grew up, after years away. She comes to the funeral of her late father – a rabbi, the highest authority of this closed, rigid society. Here she reunites with two childhood friends – the timid Esti and the pious Dovid, who, to Ronit’s surprise, have since become husband and wife. Community members are outraged by Ronit’s clothing and mannerisms. Despite their differences, Ronit once again falls completely for the uplifting company of Dovid and especially Esti. Ronit’s disruptive presence puts a timed charge of repressed emotions under increasing pressure, threatening to ignite long-dormant passions and strife.
