Resident Hall and General Conduct Policies
New York University is committed to the overall educational and personal development of its students and views the experience of living in a residence hall as contributing to such development. To facilitate this process, it is important to maintain an appropriate residence hall environment and every member of the residence hall community is expected to uphold certain responsibilities.
These responsibilities include:
- Respecting all members of the community, including students, faculty and staff.
- Valuing one’s membership in a residential community.
- Participation in the maintenance of the residential facility.
- Supporting and honoring the diverse lifestyles and pursuits of the individual members of the community.
- Playing an active role in the social and intellectual life of the community. To achieve this goal, the University reserves the right to review all alleged violations of Housing and Residential Education policies, initiate disciplinary action and impose sanctions when appropriate. A detailed description of University policies governing student conduct and procedures contained in The Students Guide to NYU, can be found on www.nyu.edu/life.html under the “Living at NYU” tab. Behavioral guidelines specifically applicable to University housing are described below and in the housing license agreement which all students agree to abide by when completing their online Housing Form. Residents are expected to familiarize themselves with all NYU and NYU Prague policies in this handbook, the University Policies and Procedures in the
New York University Students’ Guide, and to also comply with applicable local law in the Czech Republic.
Errant behavior can cause students to lose guest privileges, to lose lottery points for future housing at NYU, hefty fines and in extreme cases expulsion from the dorm. If a student is expelled from the dorm, he or she will also be expelled from the NYU Prague program.
