As a belated Black History Month event, you’re invited to a talk about African Americans in Cold War Czechoslovakia.
After the communist coup in Czechoslovakia, many Czechs and Slovaks fled their homeland and settled in the west. What few know is that some Americans, and particularly African Americans, saw the countries behind the Iron Curtain as bastions of freedom. Learn about Paul Robeson, William Patterson and W.E.B DuBois who viewed Czechoslovakia as an ally in their fight against racism and the Jim Crow system in the United States.
