Nov 20: Cigarettes after Sex Concert

After the phenomenal online break-out success of “Nothing’s Gonna Hurt You Baby” the singer, guitarist, and creator of Cigarettes After Sex, Greg Gonzalez, wanted to project his worldview onto a bigger screen. With his band, he recorded the self-titled debut album in Brooklyn. It’s this bottled intensity, and perfect cohesion between musical landscape and lyrics, which keeps listeners, falling in and out of love themselves. This year, the band are about to release their second album: “For me, the music has to be autobiographical. There’s no invention in the songs. No fiction,” says Gonzalez about his creative process.

Nov 22: Giorgia Angiuli Concert

Born in Puglia, also known as the heel of Italy’s boot, Giorgia is a classically trained musician, composer and multi-instrumentalist. Very early on she developed a strong interest for electronic music and started to experiment with new live techniques. The solo project of Giorgia Angiuli stylistically moves between pop, techno and house. She uses her voice to create a dreamy dimension intensified by the use of unique toy instruments. During her set she combines keyboards, drum pad and theremin with the sounds of a toy flute, sax, trumpets and many other toys. Mixing all of these samples and loops she shapes a vibrating and energetic groove that sets the dance floor on fire.

Until Dec 12: Russia. Timeless

The „Russia. Timeless“ exhibition presents significant artistic statements from contemporary Russia, by the classics of formerly unofficial art such as Oskar Rabin, Lydia Masterkova, Ilya Kabakov, Dmitri Prigov, or Viktor Pivovarov, who has been living in Czechoslovakia since 1980s to artists who through their work express the feelings of a generation that has lived virtually its entire live under the current regime.

Until Dec 1: Alberto Giacometti’s Exhibition

The retrospective will present the works by one of the major 20th-century artists, sculptor and painter Alberto Giacometti (1901–1966) for the first time in the Czech milieu. His main theme was the human figure. He became well-known for compelling elongated figures done after World War II, but no less important are his artworks from the interwar period, when he was a key member of the Paris avant-garde. The selection of the exhibits from its collections, which will be shown in the Trade Fair Palace, includes more than one hundred sculptures (including rare originals of plaster), paintings and drawings from all Giacometti’s creative periods, from the 1920s to 1960s.
