On April 11, former NYU Prague professor Karel Müller will launch his new book, Dobré vládnutí ve veřejném nezájmu, (Good governance in the public lack-of-interest) an analysis of local politics in three smaller Czech towns: Černošice, Semily, Hrádek nad Nisou.
How do Czechs currently view the legitimacy of democracy? What is necessary to support its development – and its survival? The principles of liberal democracy demand that the politician is a public servant, but how can you expect good service if there is a bad master?
The launch will be accompanied by a moderated discussion led by Professor Muller with three of the book’s protagonists: Jan Farský (former mayor of Semily and a current member of the Czech pariliament), Filip Kořínek (mayor of Černošice), and Hedvika Zimmermannová (former deputy mayor of Hrádek nad Nisou).
The event (originally planned for November) will take place in Richtrův dum at NYU Prague and will be held in the Czech language.
