Five years in the life of a courageous young woman named Amal against the backdrop of the rapidly changing political environment in Egypt. What if someone wants the best for their country, but gradually discovers that the greatest battles are with those closest to them?

It is a year after the revolution. Against the backdrop of a silenced citizenry’s calls for the right to ultimate self-determination comes the very personal story of 15-year-old Amal, who stands side by side with her friends at the head of protests for a more just and freer Egypt. With the passing years, however, it is becoming ever clearer that even those who stand at the barricades with Amal are ignorant of the fact that an Egyptian woman cannot freely choose what to wear or how to spend her free time. As Amal grows up, she learns that finding a place in a society dominated by men will be at least as demanding as finding a new face for her country.

When he was 12, Ghorban arrived in France from Afghanistan after an arduous 12,000 km journey, but for years his new life was not the one he dreamed of as a child.

The film tracks Ghorban for 8 years as the young refugee becomes first a teenager and then a mature young man. Before being taken in by a youth center, he slept on the streets, pinning his hopes on one day being able to attend school again. But after his traumatic experiences in Afghanistan he finds that even in France things are not easy. Moments of despair resulting from oppressive boredom and feelings of emptiness stemming from exploitation alternate with the first glimmers of a promise of a better future and first success. Ghorban’s story, framed by sessions with a psychologist, is a strong testimony of one human’s fate.
