The best shopping areas in Madrid span several barrios. At the heart of the city, Gran Vía is home to many big stores that spill over onto Calle Fuencarral and Calle Princesa. Cutting through the “hipster” district of Malasaña, Calle Fuencarral has many stores. Further east, Goya and Serrano is also a hub of fashion, including several higher-end stores. Calle de Preciados, another shopping destination, radiates off of the Puerta del Sol and has an El Corte Inglés with a spectacular rooftop view.
Although international chains like El Corte Inglés abound, there are many Spanish brands available. Zara, the most recognizable label of the Galician-based clothing corporation Inditex, offers clothing for men, women and children, whereas Mango specializes in urban style. Kling is inspired by Malasaña itself, keeping the pulse of underground fashion for women. Other Spanish stores to keep in mind are Lefties, Pull & Bear, Oysho, Desigual, Bershka, Blanco, Stradivarius, and Sfera.
