The Chinese Sociological Review, previously known as Chinese Sociology and Anthropology (ISSN: 0009-4625), is a longstanding quarterly journal established in 1968 by M.E. Sharpe, a New York-based publisher. It stands as the second oldest Western journal dedicated to China Studies, following the UK’s China Quarterly, which began in 1960. In the Fall of 2011, starting with volume 44, issue 1, the journal underwent a name change to the Chinese Sociological Review (CSR), adopting new ISSNs for its print (2162-0555) and online (2162-0563) versions.
Since November 2014, Taylor & Francis, located in Philadelphia, PA, North America Branch, has overseen the publication and distribution of CSR. The journal’s mission is to feature high-quality original contributions from sociologists and social scientists in mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and internationally. Its focus is on enhancing understanding of contemporary Chinese society and adding to the broader field of sociology.
Under the editorship of Professor Xiaogang Wu, CSR’s impact has significantly increased. The journal’s Impact Factor has impressively risen from 0.024 in 2011 to 4.0 in 2022. This growth has established CSR as a leading international journal in the exploration and study of Chinese society and culture.
