Xiaogang Wu is a Yufeng Global Professor of Social Science at the Department of Sociology at New York University and the Founding Director of the Center for Applied Social and Economic Research (CASER) at NYU Shanghai. From 2003 to 2020, he taught at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, where he was Chair Professor of Social Science and Public Policy. Prof. Wu’s research interests include inequality and social stratification, education and labor markets, social demography, and survey and quantitative methods, focusing on China. Wu has led the research team to collect high-quality and well-designed panel survey data, such as Beijing College Students Panel Survey (BCSPS) (2009-2013), Hong Kong Panel Studies of Social Dynamics (HKPSSD) (2011-2021), and Shanghai Urban Neighborhood Survey (SUNS) (2017-), Shanghai Early Education and Development Survey (SEEDS) (2023), and published 70 peer-reviewed English journal articles and over 20 book chapters and book reviews in English, and many pieces in top journals in social sciences in China.
Wu has been the founding editor-in-chief of the Chinese Sociological Review since 2011, Associate Editor (Social Stratification Section) for Sociology Compass since 2023, and an elected member of the Sociological Research Association.
