Rice Not Bullets is one of the protest cries of the indigenous people of the Philippines as well as non-Indigenous allies in both the Philippines and the United States following the Kidapawan Massacre in Kidapawan City in the Philippines in April, 2016, where farmers and Indigenous people took to the streets to ask the government for rations that they had saved up for times of crises, only to have the government open fire on them.
Taking its name from the protest cry, the final project, Rice Not Bullets, is a series of three artistic responses to the massacre and the longer lineage of attacks on Indigenous people in the Philippines.
