In 2023, our students took the reins to lead visionary studio classes that dove into four impactful topics that resonated deeply with pressing social issues of the year:
- Collective Care: Exploring the intersection of art practices and mutual aid, students examined how creativity can foster community support and resilience.
- Go Green! This class focused on the vital role of art in environmental activism, inspiring students to envision how their creative expressions can contribute to a sustainable future.
- No One is Illegal: Students engaged in thoughtful discussions on migration, using art to humanize the immigration experience and challenge prevailing narratives.
- Plugged In: This course illuminated the critical role of social media in our lives, encouraging students to explore how artists can reflect and respond to our digital landscape.
The culmination of these explorations was a vibrant exhibition, where students showcased their creative work in a gallery-style walkthrough. This event not only celebrated their artistic journeys but also highlighted the power of art to engage with pressing social issues.
