- In the Spring of 2019 urgent conversations were happening in the United States (and around the world) about immigration and borders, gender violence and gun control. Students participating in the class: ‘ARTED-GE 2272 Social Justice Education and Contemporary Art: Secondary Teaching’ chose to focus on these themes for the Visionary Studio: Saturday Workshop classes that took place over 9 sessions starting in March and ending in May 2019.
Stop! Don’t Shoot! What role can art play in changing policies about gun control?
Border Crossers: How can artists contribute to the debate about immigration?
Breaking the Silence on Gender Violence: How can art contribute to the #MeToo movement?
A final exhibition, ‘100 Ways to Mobilize’ and reception took place on Saturday, June 1 in the Commons Gallery located in the Department of Art and Art Professions at NYU. Participating high school students, their friends, families, and teachers as well as NYU faculty and staff celebrated the work that students produced over the course of the program.
