What does it mean to create a school and classroom environment where there is access for all people (students, school staff and families)? The vast majority of schools in NYC are designed for ableism. However, many, many students, and people, are differently-abled. In the class, Contemporary Art and Students with Varying Abilities, we think through ways of adapting the physical space, organization and teaching structures of classrooms in an on-going attempt to honor all students’ abilities and needs. We look at Whole Building Design and Sensory Integration Needs in creating new designs for classrooms.
