NYU Art+Education Initial Certification students participate in multiple fieldwork experiences in elementary and secondary schools, as well as community based settings (see the Visionary Studios: Saturday Workshop program). Student teaching is a chance to connect theory with practice and gain experience working directly with students and an experienced mentor.
Student teaching partnership sites include schools in the East Village and across New York City. Past partnership schools include: The Children’s Workshop School, NEST-M, The Earth School, PS 64, Lenox Hill Neighborhood House, Growing Up Green Charter School, PS 3, City As School, Facing History High School, PS 188 The Island School, Essex Street Academy, Millennium High School, City As School.
After getting to know the students, the school culture, and the school curriculum, student teachers design and teach their own lesson plans inspired by the interests and lives of their students, educational theory, and relevant social themes and questions.
