Nirod K. Das received the B.Tech degree in Electronics and Electrical Communication engineering from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kharagpur, India, in 1985, and the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from University of Massachusetts, Amherst, in 1987 and 1989, respectively. In 1990 he joined the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the Tandon School of Engineering (then Polytechnic University), New York University, where he is currently an Associate Professor.
The research interests of Prof. Das have been in the general areas of electromagnetic theory, antennas and RF/microwave circuits. He has made significant contribution in the analytical/computational study of multilayer printed antennas and circuits. Some of his specific contributions include fundamental studies of leaky waves in printed circuits, novel artificial material integration for microwave circuits and antennas, and advanced electromagnetic computational techniques for planar and quasi-planar structures.
Prof. Das received the 1993 R.W.P King Paper Award from the Antennas and Propagation Society of IEEE. He is the author of an instructional/CAD tool, PCAAMT, for microwave printed transmission lines, and another simulation tool, UNIFY, for modeling of multilayered printed antennas, circuits and interconnects. He co-edited “Next Generation of MMIC Devices and Systems,” Plenum Publisher, 1997, and is the author of the self-published text book ”Introduction to Electromagnetic Fields, Radiation and Antenna Theory.”
Current research of Prof. Das include theoretical and computational electromagnetics, applicable to problems involving diverse scales of size and complexity. His recent research on electromagnetic theory at the most fundamental level, referred to as the unified electro-gravity (UEG) theory, is applicable to model elementary particles, quantum electrodynamics, as well as astrophysical problems.
