The work process was simple. I’d taken inspiration and ideas from The Coding Train’s series on vectors. I thought that I’d try something simple, given that this was the first assignment. In order to create the effect, I played with manipulating acceleration and magnitude, in order to create variability and distance between glass-like fragments. Usually when I toy with P5 animations, I step back and observe the nature of it and add things I feel that are missing. Playing with depth on the canvas without lighting is a challenge I encountered. In order to do so, I’d experiment with scale and “shape smearing” using stroke and color. This makes things appear in front of or behind each other.
The name of the project, “Sinew” is because the patterns created by the snaking pillars seem to buttress a greater structure beyond the canvas. The criss-cross weaving bind things together.
In reflection, I think that its worth exploring more of the way acceleration affects physics. Its not very clear to me how forces work, but I think that tying together the concepts of transformational vectors would add depth to the work unknown to my speculations. Furthermore, it’s just a difficult concept.
