Hello, I am Nallely (/nah-yeh-lee/)

Hi, I’m Nallely! I am a Ph.D. student in NYU’s Social Psychology program. At NYU, I am a recipient of the Changemakers Center Leadership Fellowship, GSAS Dean’s Doctoral Fellowship, and MacCracken Fellowship.

I earned my B.A. in Child and Adolescent Development from California State University Northridge (CSUN). During my time as an undergraduate student, I conducted research in Dr. Debbie Ma and Dr. Justin Kantner’s Stereotyping and Intergroup Prejudice (SIP) Lab, Dr. Rika Meyer’s Child and Adolescent Trauma, Chronic Pain, and Health (CATCH) Lab, and Dr. Mina Cikara’s Harvard Intergroup Neuroscience Lab (HINL). Currently, I am continuing my research pursuits at CSUN as a California State University Chancellor’s Doctoral Incentive Program (CDIP) Fellow, working under the mentorship of Dr. Debbie Ma.

As a graduate student, I conduct research on racism and prejudice in Dr. Emily Balcetis’ Social Perception, Action, and Motivation (SPAM) Lab. While my previous work has focused on the impact of diversity (or lack thereof) on the motivation and well-being of racially minoritized groups, I am recently interested in the role stereotypes play in intra-minority interactions and perceptions. A key aspect of my research is developing strategies for effectively communicating disparities and inequalities to minoritized groups in ways that inspire action.

As a first-generation Latina to graduate high school, college, and now to pursue a PhD, I am highly motivated to mentor and support the success of fellow first-generation students. Please check out my resource page and apply to join our lab as an RA if you feel our common identity would benefit your educational journey! You are also welcome to contact me directly at nallelyrosa @ nyu.edu.

In my free time, I spend time with my cat Dora, volunteer at my local animal shelter as a Spanish interpreter, foster pups, and (attempt) to learn ballet folklorico. Below is Dora’s photo of the month (-:
