On April 4, 2023 Media, Culture, and Communication (MCC) faculty, students, administrators, alumni and friends raised a glass to celebrate Neil Postman’s vision.
Quoting Postman’s prescient warning in Amusing Ourselves to Death (“when a people become an audience and their public business a vaudeville act, then a nation finds itself at risk”), Jack Knott, the Gale and Ira Drukier Dean of Steinhardt, toasted to the next 50 years of media studies at New York University: “I join you in the effort to create a generation of critical thinkers who can renew serious conversation and make us all actors in the cultural life of our nation.”
