Course Organization

For more details on Ovey’s online section, please refer to the syllabus. Chikhany’s section will follow a flipped model. Lecture contents will be delivered each week through prerecorded videos, and there will be three in person meetings: two lectures (TR) to discuss the topics of the videos in more details with your instructor and work through examples, and once on Friday for the recitation with your TA. Each week will be organized as follows:

  • Videos for the upcoming week will be available each week by Thursday morning. With these videos, the new WebAssign will be released.
  • Each series of videos will contain lecture material and some exercises that you should try solving while watching the video. You should also work on the WebAssign exercises while watching these videos.
  • We will meet in lecture on TR to discuss the content of the videos, cover more examples and give you time to get started on the weekly assignments. You should have watched at least half of the weekly videos by Tuesday’s class, and the other half by Thursday’s class.
  • After the end of those in-person meetings, you will be familiar with all the material to finish the WebAssign exercises and work on the written homework. The WebAssign exercises are due by midnight on the following Monday – you should do those first (start working on them while you are watching the videos). The written homework will cover two weeks’ worth of material, is more challenging and due by midnight on Fridays every other week.

In recitation, you will cover more examples, and discuss with your TA to solidify your knowledge. There will be quizzes during recitation, see the Attendance grade for more details.
