Design Sprint
Empathy Tool
We were assigned to degenerative conditions for the first session and we ended up choosing to create an empathy tool for arthritis. Our empathy tool mimics the limited mobility and joint pain one would experience on their forearms as a result of arthritis. This was done by creating a series of hooks for rubber bands that are attached to three cuffs placed on the elbow area. A plane made from cardboard was also placed under the middle cuff to further limit movement.
Assistive Tool
The next disability we were assigned to was visual impairment. To create an assistive tool for this, my idea was to create a prototype of a hanger that had two compartments for braille labels. The compartment on top would be for clothing type and the compartment at the bottom would be for color. This way, those who are visually impaired would be able to easily identify their clothes which can dramatically reduce their dressing time. This can also help them dress themselves more independently.
