For her Ph.D., she joined the group of Prof. Koichi Fukase at Osaka University in Japan to work on the synthesis of carbohydrate antigens and study their interactions with antibodies for the development of cancer immunotherapies. She joined the Lupoli lab to extend her skills and study bacterial glycan-antibody interactions. Outside the lab, she enjoys watching movies and Friends, listening to Taylor Swift, and photography.

Brock Nelson

B.S. in Chemistry, University of Pittsburgh
Postdoctoral Associate, bmn261@nyu.edu

Brock comes from a small town in western Pennsylvania. He graduated from Pitt with a major in chemistry.  His undergraduate research focused on the synthesis and incorporation of unnatural amino acids into biological systems. When not in lab, he enjoys exploring NYC and finding the best slice of pizza! Brock defended his thesis in the Lupoli lab and became a postdoc in January of 2025.

Aweon A. Richards

B.S. in Biochemistry, Hofstra University
Graduate Student, ar3473@nyu.edu

Aweon was born and raised in New Jersey. She decided to relocate to Long Island, NY to pursue a B.S. in Biochemistry at Hofstra. During her undergrad studies, she researched the organic synthesis mechanism of NO-NSAIDs. Currently, she’s interested in exploring the world of chemical biology.

Sterling Sandler

B.S. in Chemistry and B.A. in English Literature, University of Pittsburgh
Graduate Student, ss10902@nyu.edu

Sterling is originally from Central New Jersey. She graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a B.S. in Chemistry and B.A. in English Literature. Her undergraduate research focused on novel proteins in bacteriophages that infect M. tuberculosis. When not in the lab, Sterling enjoys reading, doing jigsaw puzzles, and exploring NYC with her dog Bella.

Mia Sheshova

B.A. in Chemistry and Biology, Bard College
Graduate Student, ms10423@nyu.edu

Mia was born and raised in Macedonia, but finished first grade in Japan and lived in California for a year where she got inspired to pursue science. After finishing high school, she moved to upstate New York and completed her BA in Chemistry and Biology at Bard College. Her undergraduate work focused mainly on [2+2] cycloaddition photochemistry. As part of her senior thesis, she studied the effect of chemical leaching in synthetic and natural turf. When not in the lab, she is always looking for new places to eat.
