As the Global Liberal Studies Class of 2014 graduates, I would like to salute these 58 young men and women on the journeys they have just completed. Over the past four years, they have traversed dozens of sites across Asia, Australia, Europe, and South America—not only to live and learn in foreign cities, but to develop global perspectives that will forever inform their goals and pursuits. Many of them spent no less than half of their college education away from Washington Square, interning with local businesses, studying alongside classmates from around the globe, and developing foreign language skills. As the stoles they donned at graduation signified, these students have become citizens of the world. And now, as graduates of NYU, they are poised to create their own paths. I will be thrilled to see where these future global leaders go next.
