Firstly, allow me to summarize this amazing Shenzhen field trip in one sentence: Despite being under the pressure of a 10-page paper, it was a joyful and fulfilling field trip with abundant takeaways.
- Date: 11.03
- Feelings: pretty excited
It is the first time I am able to travel out of Shanghai with my lovely classmates and friends!!! SOOO HAPPY! (even with the task of finishing my 10-page essay) : )
- Date: 11.04
- Feelings: pretty excited, little bit tired at morning, a lot of fun begins in the noon
I can still remember the dish we ordered for our first breakfast. So impressive.
In the park, the market there was really awesome!
The First thing I’ve learnt: The importance of having a hobby.
This may seem a little off-topic, but this lady became my first good friend that I made at this market. When I approached her stall, she enthusiastically showcased the jewelry she designed and even offered to put some on for me and my friends who were with me. When I asked her about the crafting process of these jewelry pieces, she proudly replied, “I made all of these myself!” After retiring, she started making jewelry herself. Drawing from her past experience working in a wire processing factory, she combined that knowledge with her aesthetic preferences. The soft metal jewelry impressed me, and her dedication to her passion deeply inspired me.
This is my first time closely observing the finished product of 3D resin printing and stepping into the painting studio for the models.
Compared with Resin, there is one point that PLA material attracts me a lot (FDM 3D printer). This is also what I noticed in the museum – somethings the texture 3D printing gives to the model is really beautiful! I’m fascinated by the layers of textures, thinking that this could potentially add a new layer to the project.
I like feelings of layers, and I even find one apply such kind of concept. It resembles the method of creating shapes with blocks in painting, where each layer has a different color. Through the distribution of layers at different positions, it eventually achieves a three-dimensional and shaded effect.
The models produced with resin (LCD 3D printer) have a very smooth surface, lacking this kind of texture. But fo sure resin is more recommended if we need more details on our model. When using PLA, the texture generated layer by layer during printing can interfere with the desired texture the designer wants to achieve. Additionally, models printed with PLA typically have lower precision.
The support of this is much easier to be removed!!! This reminds me of my second project. Without knowing my project 2 can be printed out without support, I print all three pieces with automatically added support, which cost me almost a whole day to remove.

Today, the most common thing I heard from others was, ‘Lisa, have you finished your 10-page essay?😭
Visit to HAX:
The most impactful insight here for me was realizing, through my inquiries, that in a small group, there needs to be a designated person to carry out the data analysis. This remind me of my first project. I believe one area where I fell short in Project 1 was the analysis of my own data. The manager’s response underscored the significance of conducting a thoughtful analysis of the data. It also served as a reminder for me to ensure the validity of my data and provide clarity on the methodology employed in reaching conclusions for my final project.
Huaqiangbei:
I was amazed by the densely packed components in Huaqiangbei. It’s like a paradise for enthusiasts, with a plethora of parts and components.
