Zijin Huang, How we communication lab students perceive the world
I take the first photo in a restaurant and I pick the dish with red and green to ensure good visual satisfaction. I choose the daily scene which has less connection with art, trying to let others see how hard those art concepts were saturated into our daily lives. I choose not to use warm tones so much because I want to convey the idea that even faced with mouth-watering food, we can still calm down and think of the knowledge learned in our courses. To make the connections between the two pictures, I use continuity to match the stick and the pen. The color ring can represent the remaining dish that isn’t shown completely in the photo. The layers in the right picture give the order of different ingredients in the dish on the left. The logo of Photoshop also connects with another dish on the left. Two pictures are almost using the same composition.
To ensure a beautiful dish, I decided to dine out instead of cooking by myself. And I ordered dishes according to their appearance instead of its favor. In order to let the meat ball stand out, I invited my friend to join and hold the stick. In that case, I can put the meat ball in focus. We sit close to window to have enough natural light in the photo. And I stood really high to shoot from directly above. As I mentioned above, I didn’t use the warm tones too much so I only strengthened the light to make it clear. The right one is a collage. I draw the hand and dish myself and cut them into suitable size. For the Photoshop interface and the transparent canvas, I did some screen shoot to get them, trying to represent the feeling when we are using this app to edit photos. And the colors are trying to echoing back on the dishes and attach the importance of complementary colors and analogous colors.
If I have more time, I’ll choose to polish my photography skills and make the beef ball stand out more. Meanwhile, the collage one can have more elements to do with the digital world.
In all, I’m trying to post a different way people perceive the world in this diptych, transforming those different information into the Photoshop or digital world.
