Rewards & Recognition Toolkit

What you can do to recognize and reward your employees & colleagues

Division initiatives like the Thank You Program and the Dean’s Award are not the only ways to show your appreciation.

For ideas about how to recognize student employees, visit our page on Student Appreciation.

  • Primarily for faculty, congratulate them and share the news when they have a paper, book, or interview published
  • Have a holiday or end-of-academic-year lunch to thank employees for their work in the previous semester or year.
  • Bring treats to a meeting after a tough project or a big achievement
  • Ordering “swag” like custom pencils or tshirts for your department
  • Show your appreciation not just for great work, but also for difficult work.  Even a simple verbal acknowledgement that a project was tough can be meaningful, but other options are a lunch, taking time out of a meeting to specifically acknowledge their hard work, or bringing in treats.
  • Share significant employee achievements on lib-all
  • When announcing new services or projects, mention the employees who made it happen by name
  • Congratulate and share the news when employees have a relevant achievement outside of their job at NYU (invites to a high-profile conference, non-NYU awards or grants, etc)
  • Give birthday cards
  • Encourage your employees to show appreciation to their colleagues
  • Take part in the Thank You Program via the quick & easy form!  Those you thank will be entered in a gift card raffle.
