2018 Dean’s Award Winners

2017 was another banner year of accomplished and worthy nominees.  If you nominated someone who did not win this year, we encourage you to consider re-nominating them next year.  Everyone who was nominated will receive a certificate within the next week.

A New & Improved Way to Say Thank You!

The Rewards & Recognition Committee is proud to announce a new, unified, and more efficient way to say thank you – the New Thank You Form.

From today, June 21st 2017, the email and Google Form will no longer be valid ways to submit your thank yous.

The new form has many advantages:

  • No more confusion about which email is correct
  • Automatic & instant confirmation emails for thankers, thankees, and thankee supervisors (if noted in the submission)
  • You can thank multiple people at once 
  • Vastly increased efficiency on the administration side
  • An easier to remember URL: bit.ly/librarythanks
  • A solution which should last for years to come

We encourage you to try out the new form today!  Anyone you thank – including student employees – will be entered into a raffle for movie tickets or a book from the NYU Bookstore, and will receive your message of thanks.

2017 Dean’s Award Nominations are Open!

The Dean’s Award was created to recognize extraordinary achievements of Service, Collaboration, and/or Innovation in support of the Division of Libraries Strategic Planning Goals.

Dean’s Award FAQ

When are nominations open?

Nominations are open in the Spring each year, typically in March.  Nominations for the 2017 awards are now open!

Who can be nominated for a Dean’s Award?

Essentially, any full-time, non-student employee of the Division of Libraries.  This includes faculty, researchers, clerical staff, administrators, technical staff, and more, encompassing all departments of the division and union and non-union employees alike.  Libraries employees in New York City, Shanghai, and Abu Dhabi are eligible.

You are free to nominate colleagues in your department, your supervisors, people you supervise, or people from another department in the division.  The award is not restricted to any one rank.

Can I nominate more than one person?

Yes!  You can nominate multiple people individually, or you can nominate teams.  “Team” is defined broadly, and can be cross-departmental.  If you’re nominating a team, just be sure you indicate all the names of the people you wish to acknowledge.

The form asks me to name someone else who can talk about my nominee.  Does it have to be their supervisor? Or mine?

No – you need only pick someone who can speak to your nominee’s abilities and achievements.  We are looking for qualitative, meaningful, first-hand information.

Can I quote or collaborate with other colleagues when nominating someone?

Yes!   It’s even encouraged, though not required.  You may each nominate the individual separately if you wish.

What if someone is a great candidate for the award, but not all of the three categories – Service, Collaboration, and Innovation – apply to their job?

Some positions require people to work independently, and others might have many opportunities for service but none for innovation.  If your nominee excels in all three areas, we strongly encourage you to tell us about all three, but we know every job is different.  Remember also that innovation, service, and collaboration can all take many forms.

Do nominees need to have completed a major project to be eligible?

No – not everyone who does stellar work for the division is involved in defined projects, and many projects are ongoing.  A great achievement on a project is a wonderful thing to talk about in a nomination, but is not a requirement.  Someone’s day to day accomplishments can be significant and worth recognition.

When are winners announced?

Winners will be honored at the summer All-Staff Meeting.  During the following week, everyone who was nominated will receive a certificate.

Special Student Worker Appreciation Raffle!

Student Employee Appreciation Week is in April, so in honor of the many wonderful student workers at the Division of Libraries, the committee ran a special edition of our raffle just for them.  The winners were:
