Composition for flute, baritone saxophone, cello, and drums, with a metronome marking of quarter note = 120, present in the archive as a photocopy. There is a notated drum part that suggests a meter of either 5/4 or 10/8.
From Marty Ehrlich: “Changes” is apparently based on the opening motive of the Buddy Miles piece “Changes,” recorded by Jimi Hendrix on the album Band of Gypsys (1970).
This work is like a sister piece to “Dogon A.D.,” both for the role of the cello and for the off-beat phrases in the horn parts, which move in and out of blues-based patterns. The notation of the drum part is also similar to the drum part in “Dogon A.D.” (which is in 11/8).
