I’m optimistic after reading about George Gascon, now Los Angeles County District Attorney.
It speaks to a wider awareness about the false solutions of bail, “law and order” platforms, and death penalties.
As a librarian, I frequently cross that barrier between novice and expert. Though I then have my own blind spots in using jargon and assuming skills. But I am reminded often in reading Just Mercy of the many layers, levels, and lenses on justice. My mind is not very linear, and I’m happy to make great leaps of logic across time and discipline. So I’m trying to bring my beginner brain and naivete to maintain a sense of sequence, to see focus as a strength. Not to get ahead of the strategic plan and the tactical needs of the current audience, the current abilities.
How do we continue to sustain researchers and new-to-the-topic students through the years of legislative effort?
