Working with Rob Egan and the Learning Analytics team brought new life to the Brightspace data available to my program. This partnership led to my ability to collect information about how Brightspace was being used by faculty and students in service of providing both in-class and out of class additional time as we revised our programs of study. From the outset of our collaboration Rob was open to feedback and let me guide our shared inquiry. He provided clear and helpful examples of data portals that were available to myself and my faculty via Brightspace as well as how to update course design based on the collected data. The result was a more streamlined content delivery across our Brightspace courses. Rob was also great with short and long term goals setting. Setting up a flexible meeting structure that allowed us to move the project going while also leaving room for the time data review and research can take.
There is a pedagogical approach that is inherent to working through learning design and course delivery. In the beginning I was a bit overwhelmed by the amount of data and how I could use information from Brightspace to help guide course (re)design. Rob helped me to feel more confident in my understanding of learning analytics without losing the pedagogical purpose of how and why content is designed and delivered. This is especially important as a faculty member who is working with emerging educators. I cannot say enough positive things about this process and am glad to know the Learning analytics team is available for future collaborations and working with data.
