Lab Philosophy
Just like RNA, Jonesy lab is conformationally dynamic: we all come from diverse backgrounds with a depth of unique expertise, knowledge, and interests. We are committed to creating and upholding an inclusive, diverse, respectful, communicative, and positive lab environment. Through outreach programs like our own “LiNC” program, we strive to help those who are traditionally not provided with similar privileges and opportunities. Some ideals we abide by include:
- Accessibility of science for all: every summer we invite underrepresented high schoolers to take part in a lab project, pioneered by our first-year graduate students along with the graduate student course “Macromolecular Chemistry,” in the Jonesy Lab original “LiNC” program.
- Upholding a welcoming lab culture to foster communication between all lab members to ensure all voices are heard and respected.
- Providing access to the necessary resources, training, and mentorship to all members of the lab to ensure scientific success, creativity, and adventures.
- Treating one another with equal respect across all levels of education; from high school to PI.
Together we believe in pushing the boundaries of knowledge while breaking down the barriers to accessibility.
