Internet Art Proposal Writing
By Jyoti and Kevin
Concept:
Our project is going to be about a man who jumped off the building in a normal night. During his process of falling, he viewed different stories through windows of the building, including giving birth to a baby, a student working hard preparing for tomorrow’s exam, quarrel between couples, someone drinking alone in a sad mood, etc. All these stories actually came from his own life experience, which gradually revealed the reason why he chose to suicide. Everyone owns his/her own life. Everyone lives his/her own life. Even, everyone has his/her own choice to end life.

This special effect shows the demonstration of multiple force acting on bodies We can adapt it to slow down the falling character passing through the windows, at the same time enabling users to interact with what is happening in the window.

Our original idea comes from the video. It tells the story of a man seeing lives happening in the building on the opposite every day. One impressing part is that the peeper even engages in what is happening there, kind of calling for the police and rescuing a young woman from being bullied. We are inspired by such concept of viewing lives from windows and decide to adapt it into our project.
Production:
As for our project, we are thinking about using the cartoon and animation style rather than the realistic one. The background setting is going to be black since the story is supposed to happen at night. The project is going to start with the stars twinkling in the sky, which will be presented by p5.js special effects. Later the building shows up with the p5 animation of drawing from the bottom of the website. Lights in different windows will first show probably the name of our project, later will turn off to restart. The character then comes from the left, entering the building and whispering desperately. He jumps from the top. Though in real life he will fall onto the ground in seconds, in this project we exaggeratively extend his process of falling. He now is able to view different stories happening in each window. We suppose not to use realistic videos to present the stories, rather we may choose simple cartoons or animation together with audio and p5 techniques. Probably there will be even interactions between stories in the window and the character(like some plates and bowls may fly off and hit the character?). Since the stories actually reflect his own experience, we’ll add certain dialog boxes to introduce the background in his own words. Besides, some of the interactions we have in mind so far are: the user can hover on the room to see what is going on inside; some of the mirrors are too dirty for us to see clearing inside, so we need to press on it to clean. We may use lines in p5.js to accomplish this; Also, after seeing the story on each floor, the user presses space to keep the character falling. Some interactions will also happen in the stories. In the end, the character falls on the ground with a huge sound of “PONG” and everything turns black. We will not show the death image of this guy because it is bloody. With the sound, the user knows what happens. After all these, a shiny point (or a star) shows up at where the character falls, representing his soul. It will then keep rising to the sky and join the countless twinkling stars with the zoom out effect, showing that this is only one of the millions. The project eventually comes to the end.
