About Dr. Ricker

Dr. Joseph Ricker is a licensed psychologist and is board certified by the American Board of Professional Psychology (ABPP) in both clinical neuropsychology and rehabilitation psychology.  He is a Professor of Rehabilitation Medicine, Psychiatry and Radiology at NYU Grossman School of Medicine.

Dr. Ricker earned a PhD in Clinical Psychology in 1992 from the APA-accredited Clinical Psychology program at Wayne State University in Detroit.  Following an APA-accredited Clinical Psychology internship at the Allen Park Michigan Veterans Affairs Medical Center (now the John Dingell VAMC) encompassing training on inpatient and outpatient psychiatric, behavioral health and neuropsychology services, he subsequently completed postdoctoral residency training in both Clinical Neuropsychology and Rehabilitation Psychology at Wayne State University’s Rehabilitation Institute of Michigan.  He has been licensed as a Psychologist in five states, and holds board certification in the specialty areas of Clinical Neuropsychology and Rehabilitation Psychology, both granted by the American Board of Professional Psychology (ABPP; www.abpp.org).  He has been a member of the Board of Directors of both specialty’s board and has served as an oral boards examiner for both specialties.  In 2010, he was elected to the Board of Directors of the American Academy of Clinical Neuropsychology (www.theaacn.org).  Dr. Ricker has been the recipient of several national awards and honors in psychology, including two separate Early Career Awards in 2001 from the American Psychological Association (in Clinical Neuropsychology and Rehabilitation Psychology).  In 2003, he was elected as a Fellow of the American Psychological Association through the Division of Clinical Neuropsychology (Division 40).  In 2004, he was endorsed again as a Fellow through a second APA Division, Rehabilitation Psychology (Division 22).  Dr. Ricker has spent his career in academic medical rehabilitation settings, including Wayne State University School of Medicine (1992-1999), Kessler Medical Rehabilitation / UMDNJ (1999-2003; now known as Kessler Foundation and Rutgers New Jersey Medical School), and the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine (2003-2013).  He joined the faculty of NYU Grossman School of Medicine in September 2013, where he is currently a full Professor in the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine, with secondary appointments in Psychiatry and Radiology. Clinically, he is the Director of Psychology for the Rusk Rehabilitation network of NYU Langone Health in Manhattan.
