VR experience
I tried 2 different headsets and lots of games. And now I want to make a comparison between the one that is linked to the computer and the Oculus Quest2 produced by Facebook. For the first one, once you put it on, you can no longer see the real world. And it won’t show you the position of the controllers. If you don’t hold them in advance, you may get lost and don’t know where they are. Moreover, because its link to the computer, there is a wire at the back of the headset, and this is a big obstacle for me to conquer while playing. When I was trying to walk around, I was often tripped by it accidentally, which I find pretty dangerous. Though I know the earphones are designed to help us have a better experience. I find them not fit mine. And the headset is really heavy, so the user experience is not as ideal as I thought. In comparison, I personally prefer Oculus Quest2. When putting on the headset, it will first show you the surroundings and ask you to draw a zone that you cannit step out of when playing the VR things. If you step out, it will quit the ongoing game immediately and show you the scene of the room. It’s wireless and you can find the VR version of your controller even after you put on the headset. It’s also lighter. But still, the problem exists. Both failed to provide users wearing glasses a comfortable position. Based on these features, I think VR is now developing on a right track. At least on the appearance and safety of the device, it’s now much better than in the past.
Then, I would like to move on to the gaming part. The most satisfying one is Google Earth. It’s a better experience than the mapping because it enables you to have a more vivid experience. The one I am most disappointed at is the DOTA2. I thought it would allow me to have a look at the battleground down there, not from a gods’-eye view. While in fact, it only allows you to play DOTA2 on a bigger screen in a room, and the experience is even worse than I play it on PC. The one I enjoy most is watching the documentary in Oculus Quest2. It really makes you feel that you are there at the scene. You can turn around your head and see what’s happening around you, not merely in front of you at the scene. There is another shooting game that is quite interesting, but it also makes me feel a little bit dizzy. Especially when I try to kill all the little monsters around me, I spin for so many circles that I physically feel not so comfortable at it. But the overall experience is enjoyable and let me think of lots of usages of VR.
