Further Thoughts About the Final Project

Concept and Design

Based on what we have already discussed, we develop our concept further on how to exhibit it in a more concrete way. Basically, our main concept remains the same, which is that we still want to build a stress-relieving environment for people to relax their physical bodies and minds. But instead of implementing in a room with 4 walls around it, we are more likely to design a cabin-like space, where users can leaning on a comfortable chair. It’s a little bit similar to the following design.

To do that, I think we need to purchase a deck chair from TaoBao or other e-commerce platforms, and then build the dome and other surrounding settings based on that. We are thinking of first using cardboards to create a prototype. Then, to give it a better outlooking, perhaps we will use wood boards to cover its original surface and use Fast LEDs to fill the gap between boards and boards. Theoretically speaking, the cabin should be private and should have some noise reduction and shading functions. We are working on it right now, hoping to come up with more details in the near future. This place is relatively independent of the outer environment. It can be put anywhere in the academic building because the aim is to provide individuals with a private place.

Inputs

For the input, we are going to build a wearable device that has several sensors. We might include MindWave Mobile 2: Brainwave Starter Kit to measure the brainwave, GSR sensors to detect the sweat, and heartbeat sensors. With all data generated from these sensors, we will come up with a formula to calculate the stress level. But which combination of sensors best suits the project requires further investigation.

Outputs

For the outputs, we will use a projector to project the visual elements we have designed on the dome. And it will be responsive to the stress level. The patterns and other settings like speed will change accordingly. There will also be a stereophony system to play relaxing music, which will also change according to the user’s stress level.
